The meaning of Mishkat
In Arabic, mishkat means the alcove in a wall where a lantern sits. It's not the lantern itself - it's the space that holds the light, that lets it settle, before it spreads.
We chose that name deliberately. Because that's what we want Mishkat journeys to be. Not an experience that overwhelms or performs. A space where something already in you - the light of your faith, your peace, your knowing - has room to rest and grow bright again.
We're a small team of Muslim women who believe deeply that travel, done with intention, can be transformative. Not just a change of scenery - a change of something deeper.
The guide
you won’t be travelling alone
Every Mishkat journey includes a spiritual guide who travels with the group. Not to lecture - to hold space. To gently support what comes up when you finally slow down and let yourself rest.
They understand the Muslim's inner world. The pressures, the spiritual longing, the guilt of not doing enough, the quiet exhaustion of holding everything together. A guide, who walks with you, not ahead of you, with no judgement or pressure.
